I like this juicer, but I almost wonder if I should not have ordered the Jack Lalane Juicer. There is way more pulp that there is juice with this juicer. I noticed that on the Lalane commercial there is hardly any pulp. It also spits out of the top, making the use of my juicer a little messy. Purchased this a couple of weeks ago. Very quality construction. Makes excellent quality juice. Pulp is not ultra dry, but reasonably so. I was surprised by how much juice came out of a single small strawberry. The chute is extra large size so lots of fruits and veggies can be put in whole but I still slice up everything to a decent size just so as to not overtax the mechanism. The grinder works well, sometimes to well as soft fruit splatters up as soon as dropped in. I recommend covering the chute hole with your hand when using soft fruits like melon.

Clean up is excellent. The pulp is collected around the circular exterior brim of the top plastic housing and is easily rinsed by placing under a strong stream of water out of the faucet. Since the pulp is so fine, I recommend just throwing out the excess solid pulp in the garbage first and then a quick rinse under the faucet so as not to clog your drain stopper.

We have a large garden and if the zucchini was too big I juiced that first because it left very little pulp to clean out of machine. I then put in a bunch of carrots or any other fruit that was getting too old or over ripe. That alone made the juice drinkable however I add a half of bottle of the new V8 veg/juice drink (light) to give the juice a sweeter taste. The bananna's in the V8 improved the flavor too. The only thing that is annoying is cleaning the juicer after the carrots and other fruit (it fills up fast) but it is easy to do. I made a carrot cake fromt the carrot pulp and that worked out well. There are a lot of other carrot recipes at www.allrecipes.com I guess you can make baby food from the pulp too. I recommend doing a large quantity on weekends making a gallon and drinking it throughout the week. You really have to be into juicing to get a lot of use from this machine. It's a real shame that when we plan to purchase a juicer, there isn't a store that has all the major models and brands lined up for comparison. We are fortunate that at least there's the web where we can check out various sites and reviews. When I began juicing roughly 30 years ago there was very, very little information out there. Of course, we also didn't have to put up with silly Juiceman and LaLanne infomercials!

Juicing is a different world now. It's gotten fashionable, even showing up on Martha Stewart. The consequence is that an awful lot of really lousy juicers have come on the market, intended to make a quick buck for someone and then be gone again. We have gone from a very few brands, like the Acme and Champion, to a couple-dozen, and most of them mediocre.

Breville came in on the tide of juicing popularity with home models that have received notice for their quality and capability. This is truly in contrast to other multi-line appliance makers (think Braun, Krups, Oster, GE, Sunbeam, etc) whose juicers are best considered jokes. These juicers appear to appeal to those who want something better than the infomercial juicers but who aren't ready for something as serious as a masticating or twin-gear machine. Additionally, Breville has made a point of marketing huge chutes for their machines, actually taking entire pieces of fruit at a time.

I have owned more juicers than I can remember, and currently own around a dozen in different brands and types. I thought it was time to try a Breville, as they appear to be so popular and I wanted to discover the reason. I had no intention of spending a price on a Breville that would purchase a top-quality serious juicer. After looking at various models I decided on this 'Compact' model with the thought of possibly taking it on the road with me.

First: this ain't no compact. Though it doesn't have a separate pulp container, this machine is fully as large in footprint as the big Acme or Omega centrifugals. Compared to my two other compact machines, the L'Equip Mini and Omega O2, this machine is enormous. It also stands a good 2-3 inches higher on the counter. As I am not familiar with Breville's other models, I can only imagine they are enormous! Any idea that this 'Compact' would travel in a gym bag on the road are gone.

Second: I was curious re the 14,000rpm speed of this machine, roughly twice the average pulp ejector's speed. The little Chinese motor truly flies on this machine! As produce is introduced it is flung more violently than any other ejector I've seen. Perhaps as a consequence of its ultra-high-speed rotation, the basket screen on this machine is interesting. It's much finer than any I've seen before, almost a fabric instead of showing distinct visible holes. This is truly neither an advantage or disadvantage; the pulp left in the juice after finishing is roughly the same as the L'Equip and Omega models. A consequence of this speed of rotation is that much more froth is produced. I've had beers with less head than this!

The true peculiarity of this machine is that it's a pulp ejector that doesn't eject! The pulp is collected in an integral container surrounding the basket. It's what makes the footprint on this machine so large. It also means that, unlike conventional pulp ejectors with their separate receptacle, one has to stop this machine and empty the pulp container. On a conventional model, one can just dump the receptacle and keep going. Therefore, this machine must be compared to a conventional centrifugal juicer like an Acme or Omega, as they also must be used batch-style.

When compared with a conventional centrifugal, this machine comes up short. The big centrifugals rotate at 3600rpm instead of 14,000. The faster rotation not only makes juicing juicy fruits harder, the pulp ejecting design means somewhat less juice is extracted. Obviously, anyone concerned with oxidation of juice wouldn't be buying this machine anyway, would they?

I don't juice fruit in a vegetable juicer, so I can't comment on that. I am from the old school where we learned not to mix fruits and vegetables when juicing. I don't know whether the separation is valid, but I eat fruit and juice vegetables. This machine does a quite acceptable job at the standard carrots, radishes, and beets that I juice daily. It appears to do no better or worse than any other machine of this type on leafy greens. At least Breville is honest enough to note in the owner's manual that this isn't the machine for that.

If one indeed juices the standard vegetables, particularly carrot and beet, expect discoloration of that stylish smoked plastic. This can of course be cleaned off with bleach or Cascade if it's a real issue.

One consequence of a railroad-tunnel-sized feed tube is that produce will certainly try to bounce right out on introduction. A quick hand on the pusher is necessary.

Of course, this is yet another juicer made in Communist China. Rather amusing that their ads always show some Aussie chick touting their juicers. Why not an Asian model instead? The ones made in this country are the old reliables: Champion, Acme and Moline. If that's an issue to you.

In summary, it seems like a nice juicer, but not a standout when compared to the two equivalent juicers: the L'Equip Mini and the Omega O2. second, i have had this for almost two weeks and love this machine!

Loving it!! Breville is totally worth the money. I try to drink fresh carrot,beet & ginger juice couple times a week and getting tired of the high prices, I decided to order my own juicer from amazon. The 2nd one arrived in good condition. It can take in whole carrots and i/2 sized beets, apples and whatnot and make fresh juice in minutes!! I guess its the powerful 700-Watt motor. Years ago I used to have an old juicer - I would have to cut carrots length-wise into 4 pieces, it took a long time and it was sooo painful. So I gave up juicing, but now I'm happy that I got this one. Another bonus, the Breville is quite easy to clean, pop the cover, the components come out and you can wash them with warm water and put them back in 5 minutes.
Only thing that I disagree with is the description -- I wouldn't call this machine "compact", its more like medium to large sized. I am new to the concept of juicing, and was primarily looking for something I could use to make getting the RDA's of the fruits and veggies more possible and more fun for my family (including 4 kids, ages 12-6). I have a lot to learn and obviously have nothing else to compare this too, but I was surprised how quiet it runs given how powerful it is and how much juice it produces.

Directions are clear and easy to understand, anything that gets dirty comes off in one piece and is easy to clean. Everything including the basket is dishwasher safe (I'm washing it by hand anyway; even though it's sturdy, I am in love with this thing already and want to keep it in tip-top shape as long as I can).

Didn't know what to expect for the pulp, but the first time we used it, I used the food pusher to push the food through right away instead of letting the machine do its job (Generation X doesn't read directions until something breaks or doesn't work!:-), and this resulted in "wet" pulp and some wasted juice. The second time around (and doing it correctly this time) pulp was definitely less "sticky" and moist.

My only concern is that I did notice something a previous reviewer mentioned. On the base of the pulp container is another piece that attaches it to the body of the juicer, and there is a small, clear lip where they connect where it looks like a small amount of pulp got trapped. I washed this thoroughly and it didn't seem to come out, however, I used it again this morning and rewashed it and now there is less. I can see how this could draw some concern about the possibility of food poisoning, and I think that if I continue to see the problem I will call the company and see about having this part replaced..

Shipping was fast, a few days at most, and this thing is ready to use right out of the box. I've had it for less than 24 hours and have used it twice already. It's easy to clean, and my kids are excited about what kind of concoction they can put together to complement breakfast and to make popsicles out of. I am excited about using this thing and am planning on purchasing another one for my hard-to-shop-for mother-in-law for Christmas this year. For the purposes of full disclosure, I am obliged to admit for all of my life my idea of a smoothie has been a Pepsi float. In comparison to our blenders, it is surprisingly quiet and gets the job done in seconds. One caveat though, be sure to use the plunger or you may find your kitchen walls decoupaged with carrot, broccoli and apple pulp, resulting in a rather pleasant fragrance for the first day or so but thereafter becomes a bear to clean off and who needs to give the overseer any motivation for another kitchen renovation. In that vein, it's probably a good idea to clean the component parts immediately after using as the filter screen is no fun once the fibers congeal and running it through the dishwasher instigates another spousal discussion about wasting depleted resources since in my opinion a full dishwasher load represents anything I need to clean at a momentary notice.

As I noted, I'm not conversant on the relative benefits of this model over costlier versions, and how it differs in form or function from a macerating juicer but for someone taking tentative steps into this brave new world, I think this one has more than adequate power, is simple to use, clean and equally as important, will not drive you into depression over wasted expenditures when the thrill of the evisceration inevitably wears off. Great entry level Centrifugal Juicer. I'll give you the bad parts since almost all other reviews give you the reasons it earns 5 stars (which I also think it deserves).

First I am only comparing it with other centrifugal juicers. It's biggest competition is the Jack LaLanne's Power Juicer, also a good juicer. It's biggest plus is it does get more juice out then the Breville. However, it is also much slower, harder to clean, and not build as well. If you're only factor is getting more juice out than go for the LaLanne.

Know for the entry level part. If you want to juice large amounts you have to take it apart and clean out the pulp many times. This process doesn't take long at all but is still a pain. If you are a serious juicer I would recommend the Breville Ikon multi-speed. This Juicer is good value for money allows more juicing without cleaning, and has 5 speed choices a big plus. The more popular Juice Fountain Elite claims to be sturdier. I haven't seen any long term reviews to back that up yet. But only offers high and low settings. Last note is most people use how dry the pulp is to test how good you're juicer is. Juicers these days are so good that it differs very little. OK, there are a million pro juicers here who can tell you all the reasons this type of juicer is best, another million who can tell you why a SLOW juicer like the Champion Brand are best if you want leafy greens juiced. My only experience until this week was with an OLD 15 year old juicer we paid about $70.00 for that took about a grocery CART full of fruits & veggies just to get a 12 oz. glass 1/2 full!

As a result, we used it one time and set it out in the garage until I finally sold it for $20.00 last month. But I saw a Jack La Lane infomercial and came to trusty old Amazon.com to see about trying again since these NEW juicers get more juice (or DO they?). I start reading and see so many more people liking this particular brand over Jacks model so then go to YouTube sniffing around. I take A MONTH DECIDING and bought this juicer from Amazon directly. Used it for just 2 days so I have no way to tell you about how it is best or worse, how it is changing my life, or anything earth shattering.

But I DO have something I CAN tell you. I don't even want a beer anymore. And I like beer. A LOT!!!! I haven't even tried any of the GREAT selection of included recipes that came included with the juicer. I just tossed in about 4 carrots, 1 small pear, 2 pieces of celery, 2 small red apples and it made over 16 ounces of juice! Blows my old mind (short trip). The weirdest thing of all to me at 60 years of age is I HATE carrots. HATE them. ANY form, hate them. Now, I can't get enough. And even weirder, I wasn't able to even eat any breakfast as I was too full. I don't remember anyone saying juice would fill me up. Usually if I had a V8 it just made me want a beer to go WITH it.

So all the expert juicers can decide which brand is best, which style is best. For my recreational use and for my being able to EASILY take it apart and fully clean in 10 minutes (and I am disabled, no, NOT from the beer!), I do a very rare thing. I give this a 5 star rating. As my experience with it grows, I will update this review as required as to reliability, stamina etc. My last and only prior juicer was such a nightmare to clean AND use, got NO juice, it makes this nothing less than shocking. To have so much juice, so much GREAT flavor, almost fun to operate and clean, who knows.....I may just end up skinny & healthy. But then after today's tomato. celery & zucchini with onion experiment, I can see myself wondering what a little Vodka might do for a little added flavor? Probably lucky for me that the only alcohol I ever liked was beer......

If I get into this in a big way and discover I like leafy green stuff juiced, and find this will NOT do that well, I will find someway to go the BIG bucks for a slow turning juicer that does that type juicing best. Heck, maybe I can recycle all my old beer cans to pay for it? Can't believe it took me 60 years to find a HEALTHY way to get juiced.

2 week update. After using this twice a day some days, once per day everyday for over a week I have problems. One, we have now ruined MORE than the cost of our juicer is clothing stains from flying juice and "pieces" no matter how careful we are. It also has the dreaded "pulp trapped inside the seam between the clear part and the grey plastic" problem. I have tried to no end to contact the manufacturer. On hold with voice mail for over 1 HOUR, then instructed to leave my phone number to have them call me back=NEVER did. Sent email=NO response. Will SADLY now request a return from Amazon on this product I first loved but now is a problem as well as a health risk. I will also buy a juicer with a warranty LONGER than just ONE year. I tried to revise my 5 star rating but Amazon does NOT allow me to do this. I would drop it to 2 stars IF I knew it was not a serious health risk due to the hassle with NO customer service in my case. If I knew for sure it IS a serious health risk, I would drop it to NO stars. But then Amazon will not let me do this either.....

This juicer has been returned and I have now owned the new Omega 8006 for a few weeks. Did a FULL review at Epinions of it. What an amazing difference.

The Omega Model 8006 is still being used as well as a L Equip XL Wide Mouth Mini Juicer. Still lost over 50 pounds, STILL haven't had or even wanted a beer in over a year. This juicer does a really good job with things like apples. Obviously grapefruits and oranges won't work as well, but you still get a solid amount of juice from them too. This is my first juice extractor, and so I'm not sure what I should expect. Here I break down the experience.

Instructions:
I took it out of the box, and the instructions were easy to read, and that's saying a lot because I'm bad at reading instruction manuals.

Timeliness and cleaning:
Putting it together took maybe 10 minutes including reading the directions. I'm thinking once I get this down, I can get it down to one or two. Cleaning it took me about 5 minutes. The filter wouldn't come completely clean with the provided brush so I am soaking it overnight. Altogether, I wish it were a faster system, but from what I've read this is supposed to be easy to clean. I'm guessing that tough cleaning may be the nature of the beast when it comes to juice extractors.

Extracting juice:
I put in an apple, 9 baby carrots, a collard leaf, a slice of ginger, and 4 strawberries. This gave me one glass of juice. Was tasty and fresh, much better and more interesting than anything I'd find in the grocery store. The motor felt strong and cut it up easily. My only complaint is that when I dropped items into the extractor (which must be on before putting items in), juice splattered in my face, on the walls, and pretty much all over. I had to race to cover the top each time I added items to minimize the mess.

Overall:

I was looking for a new juicer that would make prep and cleanup easier (two biggest problems with juicing in my opinion)and this machine did the trick. While it is not noisier than other juicers, you can sense how powerful it is when you turn it on.

After I used it, I immediately cleaned and rinsed the parts and washed everything in the dishwasher. Maybe 3-4 hours later I took everything out of the dishwasher to make a new batch of juice. I found that all along the seams of the mesh filter basket little pieces of carrot had collected. So I tried cleaning the seams again with the brush that comes with it, I tried soaking it, I tried soaking it in a lemon juice solution as suggested by the owners manual, I tried vinegar, and regular soap and water. I finally even tried a toothbrush, but there was still carrot stuck in the seams of the filter.

This seems to be a very serious design flaw, as this could easily make someone sick. I can just imagine how bad this would get over the course of a few months or years. Needless to say, I did not use the juicer again, and unfortunately had to abandon my juice fast that I started today. I was extremely disappointed!

I ordered this juicer for my Mother who is a cancer survivor. I did my homework and noticed Breville to be well respected by Martha Stewart and also featured in a top kitchen catalog I read. I ordered the entry-level model, Juice Fountain Compact. Initially, we were happy with the product. The overall look, size, fit and finish, etc. were all promising.

Here is the problem: There is a plastic part called the integrated pulp container and after a few times being used, pulp from juice became trapped inside. No matter what you do or how much you soak and clean, the pieces of pulp cannot be removed. They are literally trapped inside a seam and you can see them but you can't get to the actual pieces. The point of fresh juice is to be healthy and it scares me to wonder how much bacteria could build over time as these small bits of pulp begin to mold or grow.

I started to read some of the other reviews and now I can see exactly what others are complaining about. The customer service at Breville is near impossible to reach. I was on hold for 30 minutes, two days in a row with no luck. I am sending this back and will probably order something made by ACME, Omega or maybe even Jack LaLanne. My Mother really enjoys using the unit and having fresh juice and I think having a juicer is a good investment. Just be very careful before you order. I am sure the higher priced Breville juicers are good but they are too expensive for me and honestly, I now have concerns about the Customer Service they offer. This was a good test with a $99 machine and unfortunately, they seem to have failed me.
P.S. A good point I read about juicers---buy one that allows you to order new blades and easily swap them out. It makes sense that over some time the blades would dull and require a new edge. This is my first juicer purchase.

Pros:
* Makes quick, great tasting juice.
* Very powerful motor (though I haven't tried wheatgrass yet)

* 2 minute cleanup in the sink with water only. Breville included a brush to clean the basket. I'm not sure why anyone would bother putting the washable parts in the dishwasher.

Con:
My only complaint is that pulp tends to still be wet -- it still has juice it in! I just run the pulp through the machine again and get more juice or add some of the pulp back into my juice glass for fiber and body. The rest of the pulp I save and add my cooking a thickener.

I am a first time juicer and as such did a lot of pre-purchase checking of reviews and feedback. The Breville BJE200XL was my choice due in part to the nods to engineering, form, and function quality. The added benefit was its power and compact nature.
I bought it from another site because I am deployed in Iraq and most companies do not ship this appliance to an APO. Enough rambling...

Pros:
- Quality construction. Sturdy and solid, this juicer feels like it is built with an eye to long term use. I would equate it to the same quality you find in Kitchen Aid processors and pro blenders.

- Excellent juice extraction. While some have criticized the speed at which the motor rotates resulting in reduced juice extraction, I feel it is a benefit. While there is frothing of the resulting juice due to the speed the juicer turns it really does not impact the flavor and/or taste; mainly because the mesh filter is so efficient (more on that later). I can routinely juice under ripe pears and nectarines with ease and outstanding % efficiency because the centrifugal force.

- Well thought out features. The plug is fantastic, the measuring cup and juice collector is a container that is FINALLY worthwhile in regards to interoperability with the juicer and utility when it is not under the spout. The minimalistic nature of the "pieces and parts" is a kitchen clean up and organization dream. The filter is top notch and is designed with quality and sensibility in mind. The brush and spatula make clean up easier, especially the outer collection catch.

Cons:
- Yea, scooping out the "spawl" left over from juicing can be a pain. I am in Iraq and do not have a dishwasher, but a 15 minute sequence of hot water in a bucket and the brush makes relatively quick work. Is it easy, no, take time, yes...would it be even easier with a running sink of water or dishwasher...absolutely. Do not NOT buy this juicer because of clean up...Think of it, if you are juicing you are probably willing to take the extra time to clean things by hand; your NOT a potato chip eating couch potato.
- Small item juicing "Explosion". While it has yet to fully happen to me, the speed motor and design of the chute makes the small item (e.g. grape) launch a possibility. I have found that if I drop a half kiwi into the juicer it wants to travel up the chute and out. Covering the chute with your hand is a method, but I would ask for some kind of silicone flap or other item to prevent blow back "launching" of small items. Grapes would be a disaster, strawberries even worse...hasn't happened yet but I have been cognizant of what I have been putting in.

Overall this is a GREAT machine, you will love it. The manual is very good and the components are quality...I wonder if I would ever have to replace the cutter/filter in the future....replacement parts?

Well, like many others. I decided to buy this machine after reading many pleasing reviews on Amazon. However i would still like to go over some of the stuff that have been gone over by many other. In terms of juicing, this machine definitely worth every penny of it given the fact that it's under a $100. However, the fact that splashes of juice flying out of the process is not so pleasant. After much thought and reviewing other juicers online I decided to purchase this one. Not ever trying a "real glass of fresh juice" I was hooked immediately. First off, I'm new to juicing, so I can't really compare this juicer to any other products.

So far, I've juiced apples and oranges, and it got the job done.

When I juiced two oranges, I got around 5 ounces.

When I juiced four gigantic apples, I got around 16 ounces.

That's all fine and dandy, but the biggest drawback about this juicer, is its cleanup. Somebody said that it takes two minutes? That is a blatant lie. Please post a video of cleaning up the juicer in two minutes. It's not possible, unless you're juicing ice.

On average, cleaning up all the components of the juicer have taken me around 10-15 minutes. The dismantling process is easy, but the parts are bulky and awkward, so you have to be cautious when you wash it, or you'll end up harming yourself.

The hardest component to clean, is the mesh center. The juicer comes with a brush, but that brush is pretty ineffective. The only semi-solution I've found to cleaning the mesh center, is to keep it dunked for a few hours in a bowl of water with lemon juice or dishwasher soap. I say "semi," because there's just no way to wipe the mesh clean. There will always be some stubborn pulp, even after fifteen minutes of scrubbing this component of the juicer, alone. I got this about a month ago and boy am I glad I did! I'm addicted to juicing now. I just don't feel right when I don't do it.

This is a fantastic machine. Before my sister passed from breast cancer, she'd had a Jack Lalaine juicer that broke on her. I think she may have benefited from the juice if she had one that worked. I had tried to replace it with this model but it didn't get to her in time. I doubt it would've saved her but maybe she would've felt a little better. I was recently sick and decided to get this for myself and I feel fantastic when I use it.

It's a breeze to use and clean up is simple. I've read where some people had a hard time cleaning the mesh filter but I haven't had that problem. The brush is a God send. I put a little dish soap on the brush and use a circular motion and the bits of food comes right off with no hassle at all. It all takes less then 5 minutes for me now. I do my clean up immediately before I drink my juice.

I sometimes put the parts in the dishwasher, but I still scrub down the mesh filter beforehand and rinse out the other 2 pieces throughly.

I recommend this wholeheartedly. The recipes are great and now I've figured out my own combinations and recipes. Great engineering Breville!

I purchased this Juicer based on the high rated reviews. Received it the next day and put it to work. I attempted to juice a few carrots, oranges and strawberries. It did ok on the carrots but it was literally throwing orange and strawberry pieces out of the feed chute. The motor is too powerful for it's own good and there's no option to switch to a lower speed. While the juice was pouring down to the plastic container, it splashed a lot, this is a design failure and I shouldnt have to put paper towels underneath. Contrary to all the people raving about easly clean up, cleaning the parts is not that easly and rinsing under the sink will not get the pulp out from all the corners. The large mesh screen is difficult to clean using various brushes and it's fragile. All this juicer has going for itself is that it's powerful and fast and so what when it takes you forever to clean it's parts. I can juice and clean my old juicer in a much shorter amount of time. This is my first juicer, so I don't have any basis for comparison, but I can't imagine wanting anything more powerful than this one.

The first time I used it was for a 3-day juice fast, so I used it 5 times a day and I have to say that it is everything I could possibly need. It's fast, it's easy, and for the most part easy to clean. The mesh is a bit hard to clean, but I would imagine that is the case for any juicer.

For the price, (and even if it were more expensive) I just don't think you can beat it. I'm extremely pleased.

Several of my colleagues,who have the Jack Lalange juicer,raved about the juicing and how juicing has helped change their eating habits. So I was motivated to order myself a juicer. Jack Lalange's juicer was going to take 3-4 weeks so I searched for other options that led me to Breville. Delivery took only 6 days so I received my Breville on February 5th, 2009.

I love it!! I never juiced before and I found how the Breville is easy to use and real easy to clean. Breaking down the juicer to clean is a snap and no little parts to worry about. You do have to cut in half the apples and peel the oranges(unless you like the orange peels). I recommend putting a plastic bag in the pulp collector to really make cleanup quicker.

My favorite juice has always been Orange/Pineapple. It was difficult for me drink from store bought juice, because I would get very bad heartburn and terrible aftertaste. When I use the juicer, the taste is %100 much better and I do not get heartburn. I especially love making juice for my late night drink in stead of grabbing a soda ( I am a soda junkie). My favorite juicing juices consists of using apples, strawberries, oranges & pineapples. I am still looking for different juice juicing receipes and will eventually get into trying juicing vegetable.
